The role:

  • Developmental role, with the primary purpose being to learn through experiential learning the Ventilation Occupational Hygiene And Engineering (VOHE) discipline to be able to fulfill a substantial position within Anglo American plc in the future
  • Complete a structured developmental programme
  • Be accountable to drive own development by ensuring a personal development plan in place and necessary discussions with mentor takes place to identify developmental opportunities
  • Efficient and timely delivery against any projects, tasks and academic deliverables
  • Complete development programme within the 18 month timeframe and compile evidence of work experience
  • Integrate key learning and offer input, advice and value – add recommendations after each phase of developmental programme
  • Attend all formal courses and seminars as prescribed in development programme and actively participate in all opportunities for development
  • Act in the capacity of other roles in the discipline as and when required and deliver on role outcomes as expected in an acting capacity as well as suggest and advise on improvements, or alternative ways of doing things
  • Assist with and be trained in the following:
    • Legal compliance of all statutory requirements
    • Ventilation monitoring assessments of conditions on the mine
    • Occupational Hygiene
    • Monitoring
    • Sampling
    • Reporting

You will need:

  • Matric with Mathematics and Science
  • National Diploma in the relevant field of study or
  • BSc Mining Engineering qualification
  • Coal mining experience will be an advantage
  • Computer literate
  • Candidates must have a Valid driver’s license Code 08 / K53
  • In possession of a Certificate of Fitness or be able to obtain it


  • High regard to Safety Systems, Regulations and Standards
  • Understanding of relevant legislation pertaining to the Mining Industry including the Mine Health and Safety Act
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
  • Computer literate
