The MTN External Bursary initiative forms part of our MTN Youth Strategy to develop the South African economy and skill-base and to contribute to job creation, in line with the our strategic intent to become a leading ICT service provider.
MTN offers a comprehensive bursary programme that provides support for talented students. The bursary covers tuition, registration, books, monthly allowance and accommodation.The fields of study for focus in 2012 are in line with both our MTN Strategy and the defined ICT scarce and critical skills, namely:

  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering;
  • Computer Science; and
  • Information Systems.

Prospective students are eligible to apply for an MTN External Bursary if:

  • They are a South African citizen with a valid ID number;
  • They will be studying full-time towards a academic degree (NQF level 6) at an accredited South African university;
  • They are not receiving any other bursary aid from another company;
  • They have an interest in the telecommunications industry;
  • Grade 12 learners should have achieved at least the following marks:

  • If you are already studying towards a degree, you must have passed all the courses for which you registered at the university to date.

  • A bursary awarded is subject to the condition that the candidate’s end of year results, whether in Grade 12 or at university, do not differ substantially from the results presented during the application process.
