A number of trainee positions are currently available, with the focus on supporting Port and Terminal operations. Applicants must be South African citizens and be prepared to undergo pre-entry examinations and medicals, where after, if successful, they will be placed on a training programme for a period as indicated below.
It is anticipated that the starting date will be 14 January 2013. Upon completion of training, trainees may have opportunities for placement into Operating Divisions in Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town.
Marine Motorman Grade II (20*)
The successful candidate will undertake maintenance, repairs and servicing of engines and auxiliaries on board a craft in a port operations area, under the supervision of the Chief Engineer.
Minimum requirements: ♦ Qualified EGPR/GPR (general purpose rating) ♦ Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics and Physical Science will be an advantage ♦ Pre-entry ♦ examination and medicals will be required ♦ Physically fit and healthy.
Competencies: ♦ Prepared to work shifts ♦ Willing and able to work outdoors in ail weather conditions ♦ Decision-making skills ♦ Attention to detail.
Duration: ♦ 3 weeks theory ♦ 12 months sea time = 24 months quad shift
Skipper Port Operations (20*)
The successful candidate will be trained to be in charge of a vessel over 25 tons, but less than 200 tons, in a port operations area.
Minimum requirements: ♦ Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics and Physical Science will be an advantage ♦ Pre-entry examination and medicals will be required.
Competencies: ♦ Basic knowledge of the sea ♦ Prepared to work shifts ♦ Willing and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions ♦ Decision-making skills ♦ Attention to detail.
Duration: ♦ 5 weeks theory ♦ 12 months sea time = 24 months quad shift.
