The City of Johannesburg (CoJ), Group Communication and Marketing Department has the following Internship opportunities available for a period NOT exceeding eighteen (18) months. The details are as follows:
Primary Function: Provide a graphic design service as well as administrative support within the Marketing Unit of Group Communication and Marketing Department.
Key Learning Areas: Conferring with clients and key stakeholders of the department to determine design requirements.Designing client proposals and working with clients to ensure that the end-product meets their business objectives and requirements. Briefing and advising clients on compliance with the City’s corporate identity.Developing innovative illustrations, graphics and layouts in a variety of formats for different platforms, and using graphic design tools including design software. Producing drafts for review and presenting final designs for sign-off by clients.
Leading Competencies:Work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team.Articulate ideas to clients and stakeholders.Attention to detail, patience and concentration. Accountability and time management.

|Copywriter / Journalism Grad / Intern
Key Learning Areas: Generating content and contributing to content production initiatives for various platforms managed by the department (e.g. Mahungu Ya Vatirhi, CoJ messages, bulk SMSes, the City’s website and digital screens). Applying the rules of grammar, fixing ‘lifeless’ language, as well as assessing and critiquing the underlying structure of a document. Recognising and dealing with plagiarism and copyright infringement.
Leading Competencies:Strong literacy skills, i.e., good written English, report-writing and proofreading skills. Good understanding of media and digital channels, how they interact and work to reach target audiences.Know-how to gather and process information for new and improved content (i.e. research capabilities). Work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team.Attention to detail, patience and concentration. Accountability and time management.

|TV and Radio Presenter Grad / Intern
Key Learning Areas: Practical experience in presenting or hosting on TV and radio.Researching. Planning the general direction of a show. Writing and scripting. Conducting interviews with guests in person (either live or recorded beforehand) or on the telephone. Reading from a script or autocue, or improvising.
Leading Competencies:Good oral and presentation skills. Articulate. Work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team. Work under pressure.

|Marketing Grad / Intern
Primary Function: Provide marketing and copy-writing service as well as administrative support within the Marketing Unit of Group Communication and Marketing Department.
Key Learning Areas: Creating and implementing targeted marketing plans, and tracking their progress. Involvement in the day-to-day duties relating to the implementation of marketing activities in the Marketing Unit.Leading Competencies:Work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team.Articulate ideas to clients and stakeholders. Accountability and time management.
Core Competencies: Project management, planning and organising. Good oral and written communication skills with an innate attention to detail.Creative problem-solving. Batho Pele Principles.
|Multimedia Design Grad / Intern
Key Learning Areas: Creating multimedia products. Combining various types of media, including text, images, audio and video, in order to communicate information to an audience.Building up a portfolio of work to demonstrate your skills and creativity.
Leading Competencies:Work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team.Accuracy and attention to detail. Accountability and time management.
Core Competencies: Good visual communication skills to present ideas and information in a multimedia context combined with good IT and programming skills.
