Location: Cape Town
Closing Date: 19 June 2012

Purpose:  To provide support in internal and external communications. The Communications Intern will also provide maternity relief for the Communications Associate and will be expected to coordinate all communications requests during this relief period. This position is based in Cape Town.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  1. Internal Communication:
    • Assist Communications Associate with internal communications
    • Act as Internal Liaison for Communications Department to obtain and update information
    • Work closely with other departments to fulfil all internal communication needs; such as advising and distributing communications materials
    • Participate in orientation of new m2m employees
  2. External Communication:
    • Liaise on m2m’s behalf with members of Africa-based organisations as a representative of the organisation
    • Co-ordinate and attend m2m site visits with external visitors
    • Provide support where required for press / PR events and campaigns
    • Liaise with media; including arranging interviews for interested media representatives
    • Assist with identifying and cultivating relationships with media outlets to create further awareness of m2m
    • Conduct research for speeches, articles, and other externally-facing documents
    • Assist with website maintenance, including posting news, photos and videos
    • Provide other communications related guidance and assistance as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Matric/Grade 12
  • Diploma or degree in marketing, communications or similar field

  • Excellent computer skills
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Committed team player with ability to foster strong working relations in a multi-cultural environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to liaise on all levels
  • Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal)

  • Flexibility to participate in evening or early morning calls

A monthly allowance will be paid for the duration of the graduate internship (approximately 9 months)

Preference will be given to South African citizens
