UPDATE: The giveaway value has been increased from R1000.00 to R2000.00

It’s that time again…

[Simple Question – answer one of the two BUT you can answer them both]

  1. If you were to advise people (or someone) to improve their communication skills, what would ask them to do? OR
  2. If you were to advise a grade 11/12 student about your chosen career field, what would you say is the benefit in the long run?

Use the comment section below for your answer…

What do you get for answering**?

You could be one of 20 40 lucky visitors to win an airtime voucher of between R50.00 and R60.00. The amount will depend on the network you’re using.

One more thing: I will have to keep in contact with you after the announcement of the winners to get your mobile service provider. So, you need to enter your email address properly.

Why?

Do you want to know why the puffandpass overlords are having these giveaways? This, more than anything else, is a way to say to those who have got to the point of shyness for asking their grandmom to help them with money, from that little pension, to buy airtime/newspaper to keep their heads up. To keep walking. That we think of them everyday.

Closing Date

This giveaway closes midnight on Saturday, October 20, 2012 after which the comments section on this post will be closed and you will no longer be able to leave a comment. Please do note that comments are moderated which means your comment may not appear right away. Importantly,  all silly comments will be disqualified and deleted!

** Unlike previous times where winners were computer generated, this time the Site Editor and the “friends of puffandpass” will hand pick the winners based on the quality of the writing and the value of one’s answer.

Another thing: If you have a concern or something you want to share privately, please contact the Site Editor viaSend Feedback!

Lastly, although it might have been an isolated incident when it happened, if you happen to be one of the  winners do NOT bug the editor (every two hours) asking when you’re going to get our airtime. Be patient!

Information technology has become an essential part of all organizations and individuals working for organizations. Competence with this technology has become imperative for individuals in performing their daily tasks. Information technology is used not only for producing information, but also for communicating information electronically. With the changing environment in which organizations operate, information plays a vital role in keeping managers up to date with opportunities and threats in the environment. Information can also identify weaknesses and highlight strengths. For organizations to be managed successfully, the production and supply of quality information to all the decision-makers and stakeholders are critical. I guess the long term benefits are the various business skills and general development understandings hat can be apply pretty much anywhere in life

    answering question 1.
I would firstly remind the person about the importance of communication in our everyday life, because i understand that people see no reason in communicating effectively because they don’t know its importance.
I would advice the person to do the following:
    1. Listen effectively to what is written or being said, try to understand the other’s person point and ask wherever he or she doesn’t understand.
    2. Try using a language that is understood by receiver of the message.
    3. Keep the facts straight: everything you say must make sense and be straight to the point.
    4. Be sensitive and consider other people’s background and personalities to avoid intercultural misunderstandings.
    5. Remember that communication is a two way process, so it is very important to provide feedback in other for the communicator to see that you are hearing what is being said.
    6. be humble and respectful at all times.

Well I can advise one to use the following steps:

1.Awareness of your own interaction with other people is the first step in improving your communication skills.

2.Learn to identify which types of situations make you uncomfortable and then modify your behavior to achieve positive results is a critical step in improving your communication skills.

3.You can learn to become aware of behaviors in other people that prompt you to respond in negative ways and modify your own behavior to turn the situation into a positive experience.

    4. You must accept responsibility for your own behavior and do not fear apologizing for errors in judgment or insensitive actions can be very helpful.

    5. Your non-verbal communication is equally as important as the things that you say. Positive body language is extremely important in your interactions with other people.

    6. In order to learn how to improve your communication skills, you must become a great listener. You must fight the urge to respond immediately and really listen to what the other person is trying to communicate.

    7. Improving your communication skills is a process and cannot be accomplished overnight.

    8. Maximize your positive personality traits and use them in your interactions with others. Good communication and great listening skills are the most important tools you can use in improving your communication skills.

    9. You can learn how to improve your communication skills by developing excellent listening skills, learning to resolve problems and conflicts, understanding body language, and accepting responsibility for your own negative behavior.

For the second answer: Studying IT is good choice, but I have to make an introspection of yourself, your personality will it suit the type of focus needed in studying for Information Technology.

U have to be a very dedicated student and be good on your mathematics, languages and science. U have to be prepared to invest all your time on IT because the benefits are very satisfying in the end.
You have to stay focused, enjoy solving complex problems, and always reading IT related books and research because it is all about cuming up with new ideas and programs in IT, to make our world convenient for all who live in it. I hope my advise will embbed with ur brain and u’ll grasp what u think suits you.
But otherwize I believe all faculties have almost de same demands when coming to achieving your goals @ varsity or college.

    1. I would advice the grade 11/12 to attending career exhibition to get more information about career path to follow, i would also encourage student from poor family background to consider career with bursaries that guarantee employment in completing of studies, careers like Nursing, Social Workers and teaching because is very much painful to sit home after completing the studies. Lastly about career its important to further your studies in something that you love.

    2. About improving communication skills is important to start learning speaking English fluently, read communication skills books that covers both verbal and writing communication, so that you can know how to prepare and answers interview questions, writing Jobs and bursaries application letter, so that you can understand that listening is a skill and stress management, because you cannot communicate well under stress.
